All pure-play B2B SaaS have one feature in common. It isn't leveraged as much but you simply can't operate without it.
And every now & then, it's used to quench the demands of nosy auditors.
The Billing module.
Often ignored and underserved, the billing section can be incredibly frustrating for account admins if not structured well.
Some tips to keep in mind for PMs:
1. Invoices and receipts aren't the same. You need to record both.
Invoices are used to track a sale and are issued before payment. Receipts are proof of payment.
Often, finance teams ask for invoices when they file expenses.
2. Enable admins to bulk export PDF invoices in a specific timeframe in a zipped file. They'll thank you for it.
3. In the transaction timeline, highlight events where a subscription plan was changed and by whom.
4. The person who manages the account and the one who fills in the billing details need not be the same. Keep provisions for that.
5. For every transaction, clarify the currency of purchase (or wallet credits) , subscription tier and the card that was charged for each transaction.
6. (Bonus) If utilization is such that a higher tier would prove to be more economical for the user, proactively inform them. Increases trust.
