Some internet companies give Product Manager candidates a take-home assignment which involves analyzing their website/product & suggesting what can be improved.
I got this as part of my Bayt interview as well 9 years ago.
My favorite framework to tackle such an assignment is Dave Mclure's Pirate Metrics aka AARRR.
It break downs the product into smaller components & helps you neatly compartmentalize your findings to formulate a structured response.
1. Acquisition - how do users find the product?
- Do a SEO audit on Ubersuggest, check backlinks etc.
- Look at paid strategy vs competitors using Spyfu
- Explore social accounts, posting frequency etc.
2. Activation - what problem do they solve & how well do they do it?
- Analyze the sign up flow - are there are onboarding wizards?
- Is the navigation easy?
- How many clicks to the aha moment? Is the path to it clear & obvious? etc.
3. Retention - how do they get back users?
- Newsletter? Notifications? Alerts? Content?
4. Referral - how do they get users to spread the word?
- Referral rewards? Promo codes?
5. Revenue - how do they make money?
- subscription model vs. transactional?
- Is pricing clear? How do they compare with competitors?
As a Product Manager, you might be asked a lot of questions during an interview. One of them includes technical questions. Here are 4 types of technical questions that you might come across.
