During our customer research for Yallamotor, we went to a local car market in Sharjah to talk to dealers.
We were planning to pitch them our platform where they can put used car ads but were kind of taken aback when we saw the environment they were operating in.
These dealers were out on the street, constantly with their phones & randomly hollering out to cars & passer-bys in case they were interested in buying a car.
They were smart businessmen but not really internet savvy.
We asked them if they were using online services to advertise cars. To our surprise, most of them were.
They would then walk us back into a secluded room in their dealership with a laptop & a lonely "IT" guy.
Then, it dawned upon us.
The dealership owner was going to sign our checks, but their IT staff were going to use our portal.
Sometimes, the customer is not the user.
The former will care about end goals, while the latter will worry about the means to that desirable end.
Recognizing that early on in your venture will save you from crafting the wrong sales & marketing pitch.
