Product Team Empowerment

To produce Toy Story 3, it took Pixar anywhere between 7 & 11 hours to render each frame.

And that was the final step in the process. Countless hours were spent by hundreds of animators in preparation to submit work for rendering. Sketches, color scripts, props, voiceover, details - all of this takes a lot of sweat to produce.

But when we, the audience, watch the movie - we hardly notice the painstaking detail & tireless efforts those animators put it in every moment.

What is only a second of casual viewing for us took hundreds of hours for them.

Sadly, very few of us can appreciate that.

So, how does Pixar give back?

Apart from a decent salary, it features their names in the end credits.

Not all that amazing though - as that's the part when we exit the cinema.

This goes on in every single product team.

Developers, designers, testers etc. put in a lot of hard work to stitch up the magic we see on screen. What looks like a simple user flow, validation or search feature to us - might have taken hours to build, design & test.

A lot of us take that for granted.

It's the duty of PM to spread LAVISH credit after success. Celebrate each build. Thank everyone's contribution personally in public.

It's only human to do so.
